Workshops

The 2Funky educational workshops were set up in 2002 mainly to fill a huge demand. Our workshops currently include DJ, Breakdance, StreetDance and MC workshops. Each workshop is designed to build up the student's confidence incorporate team building skills. Students who complete the workshops will be taught about the background and fundamentals of each workshop.

 

Our classes cater for all ages from 8 upwards. There are three types of courses, beginners, intermediate and advanced. The courses normally run for a duration of 8 to 13 weeks depending on the depth of course required and budgets allowed.



DJ Workshops - Students will be taught about the history of djjing, setting up the equipment, beatmixing, different types of scratches and tips on how to dj for a living. At the end of the course students will complete their very own mix cd.



Breakdance Workshops - Students will be taught the history of breakdance and the very basics of breakdancing. They will learn how to stretch and warm up properly to avoid any injuries. After learning the basics mini routines will be put together.

 
 

Street Dance Workshops - Students will be given an introduction to the dance of hip-hop and how various moves are used in performances and in music videos. Students will be able to put together their own routines for a performance at the end of the course.

MC workshops- Students will be given an introduction to the background of MCing and will learn to write their very own lyrics. At the end of the course students will complete their very own cd.

All students will receive a certificate at the end of each course.

'2 funky carried out an 8 week workshop with 6 young people who were on referral orders. The workshop's very well constructed and all of the young people who participated in them enjoyed them thoroughly.

The workshop facilitators were very effective and found it easy to establish rapport with the group while still controlling them. The group were of mixed ages and abilities and the facilitators were able to meet their needs and learning styles.

The kind of young people we work with are usually hard to engage with and have a number of issues around reputation and self image. The workshops provide these young people with an alternative to anti-social behaviour and crime in a format that has 'street credibility.'
